Mythical Hill

(c) Tina Gibson, 2012

Many take the long way,

On an uphill battle that is heavy.

Don’t slow down and don’t look back,

Even if others are having a heart attack!

Our trail lies in the balance of shattered tears.

I hear the bitter melody of the Banshee;

The wailing sound of distant fears.

A double-edged rainbow

Is a double-edged sword.

Optimism shines in good faith,

But how much more can we take?

Many of us have invested;

Head-steady and headfast,

In search of the crimson pot.

They believe in the story–

Wholeheartedly.

As if never-ending rainbows

Will always prove for their gain.

But hey, that’s what ultimately goes,

When you search for mythical gold.

A lesson in lolly will reveal

That the story of Mythical Hill

Is one of the greatest lies ever told.

They climb onward with a steady push.

Persistency is the day they’ll cash in.

At least, that’s the belief they are sold.

What is it about their drive,

And the reasons why

They tirelessly try?

Maybe it’s like eating that last meal

Right before you die?

A double-edged rainbow

Is a double-edged sword.

Optimism shines in good faith,

But how much more can we take?
